Yellow Caution set the 12th round of the NTT IndyCar Series, held at Iowa Speedway on July 13th, and Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi) won.
IndyCar Rounds 11 and 12 Iowa is held with double headers, where two races are played each weekend. The 0.875-mile (1.408km) short oval was contested for 275 laps, and the previous day's race, Race 11, was won by Pat O'Ward (Arrow McLaren).
In the next round, the 12th round, Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi) took pole position, and the 275-lap race began. However, on the first lap, Scott McCrafran (Team Penske) and Devlin DeFrancisco (Rahall Letterman Lannigan) crashed. It immediately becomes yellow caution.
The race resumed on lap 12. Palou keeps the lead, followed by Felix Rosenqvist (Meyer Shank) and Joseph Newgarden (Team Penske).
New Garden has been in second place with Rosenqvist. Palou ran smoothly on the lead, but after 30 laps he quickly caught up with the back marker, allowing New Garden to approach.
On lap 50, Sting Ray Robb (Huncos Hollinger Racing) crashed alone. It was my second caution, and we went to the first pit work for each vehicle.
The Green Flag is on its 65th lap. New Garden exchanges paroos here and takes the lead. David Maroukas (Dale Coin) came in third, and Oward, the winner the day before, went in fourth, and Rosenqvist came in fifth.
New Garden skillfully exchanges back markers and builds a lead. Meanwhile, Palou is approached by Maroukas and engages in a fierce battle for second place.
On lap 130, New Garden pitted for the second time. Here, Marcus Ericsson (Andretti Global) crashed alone in turn 4, making his third yellow caution. The timing was awful for New Garden, after a fast-paced run.
When the pit lane was opened, the top teams including Palou, Maroukas and Oward came in to pit.
The race resumed on lap 142, with Palou, Marucas and Oward. New Garden, which fell to 12th place, rose to one position and came to 11th place.
On lap 176, Karam Ilott (Prema Racing) lost his balance and crashed alone. This will be the fourth yellow caution.
The top team pitted for the third time at this time. Kyle Kirkwood (Andretti Global) stayed out, with Palou in second place, Maroukas in third place, and Connor Daly (Huncos Hollinger Racing) in fourth place, Oward in sixth place and New Garden in eighth place.
When the restart began on the 191st lap, New Garden rose to fifth place. Palou exchanged the persistent Kirkwood and took the lead on lap 193. Marucas continues.
New Garden exchanged daily on lap 220, making up for third place. After chasing two cars running five seconds ago, he caught up with Marucas on lap 237 and took second place. You instantly capture the Palou at range.
On the 241st round, he lined up with Palou and overtaked. He's once again on top. Palou was also exchanged by Maroukas and came in third place.
On lap 248, Marucas first pitted. New Garden pits on lap 250. It takes a little effort to do the work and pits out behind Marucas.
On lap 254, Colton Harta (Andretti Global) crashed alone and again went yellow caution. Palou will be in an advantageous position and will be in the final stint of the match.
Palou, Marcus Armstron (Mayer Shank Racing), and Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi) restarted on lap 265. Palou keeps the lead and Dixon moves into second place.
Dixon was unable to catch up with Pallow, and Pallow was checked out at the top and won his seventh win of the season. He won his first short oval victory. Dixon came in second and Armstrong came in third, with Honda finishing race two at Iowa 1-2-3.
Parow has seen the most wins in the season, the most wins from AJ Voyt and Al Anss, and commented, “I can't speak. It's been an incredible day, an incredible weekend. We've had a more amazing season than anything else.”
