At this point, Ohio State Buckeyes coach Ryan Day has established himself as one of the best head coaches in college football.
Yes, I understand that Ohio State lost to Indiana in the Big Ten title game and fell to Miami in the Cotton Bowl, but Day is a year removed from a national championship, and the loss to the Hoosiers was the Buckeyes’ first defeat since last November.

I think the man deserves a pass.
In fact, Day has been so impressive in Columbus that some feel he is a candidate for an NFL head-coaching job, with Sean Deveney of Heavy pitching him as a possible target for the Cleveland Browns.
While Deveney deemed Day as an “unlikely” fit for the Browns, he feels that Cleveland should at latest check in on the 46-year-old.
“The local guy and 2024 champ is worth a phone call,” Deveney wrote.
The Browns could call all they want, but I find it very hard to believe that Day would genuinely consider taking the job.

Cleveland is one of the most dysfunctional franchises in professional sports and has one of the worst rosters in football. The Browns also won too many games down the stretch to get a good draft pick, so they probably aren’t selecting a quarterback.

Day just completed his seventh full season at Ohio State and has gone 82-12 with the Buckeyes and has the highest winning percentage of any active head coach.
He has guided Ohio State to a pair of National Championship Games and put together one of the most stacked rosters in recent memory in 2024, which resulted in his first title.
Why would Day leave such a prestigious job for the Browns at this juncture?
It just wouldn’t seem like a very good move for Day, who finally won over the fans in Columbus with his run last winter (and by finally thumping Michigan to end the 2025 regular season).
Ohio State should once again be a national championship contender next year with Julian Sayin now having a full season under his belt and Jeremiah Smith returning for his junior campaign. The Buckeyes also have an impressive incoming recruiting class led by top wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., who may very well serve as the No. 2 behind Smith next fall.
Day has every reason to return to the Buckeyes in 2026, especially if Cleveland is the NFL team looking to lure him.
