Real Sociedad Japanese national team midfielder Kubo Takefusa (24) mentioned his goal this season, saying that he “strives to play more lead roles” after the match against Espanyol.
R Sociedad faced Espanyol in the second round of the Spanish league held at home on the 24th. Kubo, who started in two consecutive games since the start of the season, showed great results in all goals, drawing 2-2. The Spanish newspaper Marca reported what Kubo had said after the match.
Kubo first commented on the match against Espanyol, which he eventually caught up with, saying, “Except for the first half, it was pretty good. The important thing is that we managed to handle the two matches in some way, but it's not good to be emotionally depressed, so we need to improve.”
Regarding the scene where he allowed the lead to 0-1, he recalled, “To be honest, I was pretty angry because it was so easy to do it, and despite the chances I had a few times, I couldn't take the lead. Suddenly, I was attacked by a counter that seemed like nothing was going to be a problem, and I couldn't see it by Turientes, but I conceded a goal. When I saw Espanyol happy, I said, 'Damn!' and I wasn't playing well when I held the ball, so I was mentally depressed.”
Regarding what the team lacked, he replied, “I talked to Oli (Oscarson) earlier and said he was very good at the last 20 minutes. We have to try and extend that time even further. We'll probably get better results if we take the lead, rather than fight back next time.”
Regarding his goal this season, he explained, “I'm looking forward to working hard to play more of the lead roles. Today I had to go down a little bit more than usual to create play and give my teammates an advantage in 1-2 situations.”
When asked whether he prefers to play on the side or the middle, Kubo replied, “I want to record goals and assists. To do that, I think it's better to play on the inside, but if you can't play on the inside, I think it's good to go to the side. I'm here to contribute to the team and play the roles that are required depending on the game.”
