Urban Meyer is very familiar with the bitter rivalry between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines.
As the head coach of Ohio State from 2012 through 2018, Meyer led the Buckeyes to a perfect 7-0 record against Michigan. He has not coached in college since that 2018 campaign, but there have been plenty of rumors about him potentially coming back.
Just this offseason, Meyer was linked to the coaching jobs at Penn State, LSU, and Florida. He opted to stay in his role as an analyst. However, more rumors have popped up.

Since the Wolverines made the decision to fire head coach Sherrone Moore, Meyer’s name has been brought up. Fans have talked a lot about Meyer switching to the other side of the rivalry to help lead Michigan back to football dominance.
While the rumors are out there and swirling loudly, Meyer didn’t hesitate to speak out with his thoughts on becoming the next head coach of the Wolverines.
Meyer issued a two-word response to the idea of him becoming Michigan’s new coach.
“No shot,” he said bluntly.
This should come as no surprise to Wolverines or Buckeyes fans. Meyer still loves Ohio State. He knows what going to the other side of the rivalry would do to his legacy.
Even though Meyer has no interest in the Michigan job, his track record at the college level will continue making him a name in the conversation for any major coaching opening. Throughout his college coaching career, Meyer led his teams to a 187-32 overall record. He also won three national championships, with two of those coming at Florida and the other with the Buckeyes.

It was fun while it lasted. Meyer being rumored as a potential fit for the Wolverines would have been one of the wildest stories in recent college football history. However, it’s not going to happen.
Michigan will need to figure out who can get the program back on track. The Wolverines cannot afford to miss with this coaching search. Quite a few candidates will come up as potential options, but Meyer isn’t going to be one of them.
