[Lotte Motomae Ikuya]”I thought my arm was gone” It's finally been a year and a half after a spiral fracture, and it's finally a match against the batter.

Pitcher Lotte Motomae Ikuya (27) suffered serious injuries to his left arm while pitching during spring training in 2014 and suffered serious injuries due to a spiral humerus fracture. It has been about a year and a half since I recall, “I thought my arms had disappeared.” After repeated rehabilitation, he finally recovered to the point where he was able to pitch against the batters. He spoke about his moment of injury, his journey to return, and the people he supported.

What happened that day?

On February 20th, 2024, he pitched in a practice match against Rakuten. In the fourth inning of the second inning, when the ball he threw over the catcher's head and drove farther apart, Motomae held his left shoulder and crouched down on the mound, making him unable to move.

“At first I didn't know what had happened. I felt my arm was flying, and when I looked, it was stuck. At first I thought it might be a dislocation, but my arm was flapping, so I wondered what it was.”
